At the Association of Future African Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons, we envision a thriving, self-sustaining community of skilled professionals who will shape the future of healthcare across Africa. Driven by passion, commitment, and a vision for excellence, we aim to transform the landscape of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery on the continent.

Our mission is rooted in empowering the next generation of surgeons through a holistic approach that combines education, research, advocacy, and mentorship. These four pillars form the foundation of our work, enabling us to inspire innovation, nurture talent, and foster a supportive network that will redefine healthcare outcomes for Africa.

4 Pillars of AFAC's Work

Education

We providing educational materials and resources in cardiothoracic  surgery, vascular surgery and global cardiothoracic surgery in the form of webinars, workshops, toolkits and other relevant materials

Research

We strengthen and provide members with research skills and promote research in various areas of cardiothoracic surgery and related specialties. Through research fellowships, local and international research projects.

Advocacy

We advocate for cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, cardiovascular medicine, global cardiothoracic surgery and gender equality through social media platform, hosted events and other education activities.

Mentorship

Faculty members (comprising of renowned cardiothoracic surgeons within and outside and distinguished professors in the field) provide mentorship to proactive students, general practitioners and residents.
